Gary Mills placed on loan list

Ex captain Gary Mills yesterday was placed on the loan list. The central midfielder has dropped way down the pecking order since Hotchkiss and Challinor joined the club.

Mills joined us in the summer from Stevenage Borough signing a 2 year deal. I think we originally signed him as a ball player who could create opportunities for our strikers, but he was used as a defensive midfielder who broke up play and sat back giving the other central midfielder a chance to push on further up the pitch. Mills was unlucky that he got injured within 10 minutes of our opening game against Crawley Town, which we went on to win 4-0.

He never really got a good run in our team due to the quality that we have here and the quality that Holdsworth is always adding to the team. Once Hotchkiss, Challinor and Brough all signed it was obvious that somebody had to give way somewhere. We can’t have 6 central midfielders in our squad and all of them playing first team football!

The Stevenage fans told us that he took a while to get going for them but once he did he was quality. If he hadn’t of got himself sent off at Rushden I think he would’ve secured himself in the starting 11 and we may have started to see the best of him. He put in 110% effort every time he played and I like him for that.

I can’t see him playing for us ever again now though. He’s had the captaincy took off him so it’s obvious he doesn’t feature in Holdsworths plans anymore. Both Daryl Clare and Jon D’laryea went out on loan and never returned.. I think he will easily attract enough interest from other BSP clubs to secure himself a loan move somewhere. Given a run of games I think this guy would’ve come good for us.

Good luck where ever you end up Gary!
