Introducing your new Always Amber blogger – Scott Rogers
Hi Always Amber readers, after reading that Ben was looking for a new blogger for the site, it seemed the perfect chance for me to combine my two passions: Mansfield Town and sports journalism which one day I hope to pursue a career in. I have been a regualar at Field Mill for as long as I can remember and attended my first game in the 1999-2000 season which was a 2-0 home defeat against Swansea City. I then didn’t see a Mansfield win in the next four games but I had got a buzz that still lives in me and is stronger than ever. I have been a regular season ticket holder since then and attend as many away games as possible which is difficult though as I play myself on a Saturday. I also volunteer at Field Mill and help out the groundstaff whenever I can which is on match days and also when I have time off school as I still go to sixth form at the Manor School.
The best memory that I have of being a stags fan is the season that we won promotion to what was then Division 2 and the last two home games of that season which where against Cheltenham and Carlisle, the second of which was the game that cinched promotion and is a game that I will never forget. Another game I will always remember was the trip to Cardiff for the League 2 play off final and although it ended it heartbreak it was still a great season and a great memory for everyone that attended(apart from maybe Liam Lawrence)
Back to the present and the current squad which I believe is a great squad which certaintly have enough quality to achieve atleast a play off place and I also believe that we have the right man at the helm to give them the guidance and the management that they need. For me we have a strong squad with in my opinion the best goalkeeper outside of the football league and I also believe he would sail into most sides in League 2. The signing of Luke Foster has also strengthened a solid defence that can deal with almost any strikeforce in this division and this added to the creativity of our midfield added to the hard tackling Matt Somner makes sure that chances for our impressive and versatile attack which will always score goals. Added to this my favourite player is Kyle Nix who I think we have missed greatly during his injury but now he is nearing full fitness, he can only improve our team as we aim towards the ultimate goal, a return to the football league.
That’s is about me, I hope you all enjoyed reading my first blog and lets hope its the first of many.
COME ON YOU STAGS!!!!!
