Mansfield Town vote to keep Chester in the BSP

2010 February 20
by Milnez

We are voting to keep Chester in the Blue Square Premier despite them racking up a 700k+ debt in less than 6 months.

Although there has been no official statement about this Andy Perry (Chairman of MTFC),  posted this on his Twitter this morning.

“We are voting to keep Chester in the BSP. Also if needed we will loan Chester some players for free!”

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised to see this as if Chester do go out of business we will lose the 6 points that we picked up from them. Chester have huge debts hanging over their heads so even if they do survive this vote then they won’t last for much longer as they owe money to absolutely everybody possible.

Nevermind us lending them players they can’t even afford  to pay the bus company that takes the players to away games, so the company will no longer provide this service as they have not been paid. They can’t afford to police their own home games. There is no chance Chester City will still be playing in the Blue Square Premier in another month, so we might as well do the decent thing and vote to kick them out. Their fans deserve so much better than to see their club being propped up by another club just for the sake of six points.

That is unless one of owners  fancy buying Chester City out and paying off all their outstanding debts.. Even after that we still are not guaranteed to pick up enough points to get into the play offs!

    Spot on comment.

Perhaps Mr. Perry wouldn’t mind paying all of our bills, coach travel, and players’ wages so we can actually fulfill our fixtures!

The Conference have bottled this once again by putting it to the vote, where each club will have their own agenda. We are highly likely to go into liquidation next month anyway so the points will probably be docked one way or another anyway.

Do the right thing for the future of our club.

Chester City FC is already dead, the club will not be able to finish the season. The fans know it, the Conference know it. So why make it more difficult for yourselves dragging it out even longer. I would have thought your board would have been more sympathetic, considering the situation your were in not so long ago.

Perhaps if you read up on our sitauation your opinion may be changed.

Whatever matches we play from now on (and that’s a big IF…) will result in three points for the opposition anyway, so why try to safeguard the points you’ve gained against us when it will prove fruitless in the long run?

The Conference will be made to look ridiculous now. Why they put it a vote, I’ll never know.

Surely there cannot be anyone involved in the Conference who would vote to keep Chester alive in its present form, or under this ownership. But that the Mansfield owner should make his statement to the contrary is all that’s wrong with football at every level – secretely ALL supporters rejoice in the demise of a rival, proportionally few actually genuinely wish others well. And to to truthful, I don’t have huge sympathy for the likes of Portsmouth, Leeds, West Ham etc (as club owners, I don’t mean the supporters) for overspending hugely in order to get the edge on rivals, thus securing success (and ongoing Prem riches) at other rival teams expense. But PLEASE consider this about the Chester City situation – virtually ALL of its own supporters are pleading with the authorities and rivals for them to help kill the current club off – and are OFFICIALLY boycotting all home games (season ticket holders only turning up) – how often does THAT occur?
We’ve had a seriously ‘fishy’ situation going on with ownership of the club, owners who (again) claim vast debts are owing, mostly tio them (since an August clean start, over £700,000? yet these owners appear to have paid few, if any, bills during this time, so how does that math work out?).
Part of why we ended up with a killer 25pt (rather than 10pt) administration deduction this season was because the government agencies didn’t believe the previous debt that the same owners said we had (£4 million to them, plus £290,000 to other creditos) was proven – and yet the very same people were allowed to buy the club back? The same family were in charge of Barrow during a previous demise. There’s clearly far more beneath the surface, but no one of any enforcement power seems interested… in little clubs.
