Budget not being slashed for next season
“We’re not particularly changing the budget, we’re changing the amount of players we’re having in the squad” were the words from Andy Perry tonight on the BBC Non League Show.
I think most of us expected the budget to be cut after this season so this has surprised me a fair bit. Going by the official site we have 32 players signed to the club at the minute. Some of them are out on loan but still, that can’t be cheap. By this news it’s clear to see that the board want to return to League Two as soon as possible.
“We feel having a tighter squad (will be better) but with the same budget so hopefully we can bring in some more quality” Andy Perry – BBC Non League Show
I’m glad to see that the board have told Holdsworth that they would like to see a smaller squad next season with more quality in it. His main downfall this season has been signing far too many players and not being able to keep them all happy. This results in him having to chop and change the squad every week to try and prevent them getting unhappy. I believe that we don’t need a massive overhaul in the summer to turn the current group of players into a good team. Two quality players in the wide areas, a left footed Silky and somebody who can find the back of the net regularly would do me. Not a big ask eh?
Holdsworth faces his toughest summer in charge of us. Granted it’s only his second but if he messes this up I expect him to be out of a job by Christmas. A total of 17 players contracts are up including Luke Jones, Blair Sturrock, Ollie Hotchkiss and Jon Challinor. He’s got to decide his team for next year and go for it. He cannot be allowed to keep adding to his squad throughout the season like this one. It does not work. Andy Perry also said on the same interview that Holdsworth’s job is safe and so is the clubs future. In other words we’re not doing a Cambridge and pumping stupid amounts of money in and then having to get rid of the players if we fail to go up.

Definitely the right idea. We need to stop the ins and outs we’ve had all season, keep a consistant team and let Holdsworth find his best 11! I’m glad the owners are still on the fans wavelength!
